How are the mountains recounted in 2023? While on the one hand the late 19th century vision of man’s control over nature persists, with the 'legend’ of those who manage to achieve great feats (but do they really still exist?) and performance, on the other there are new generations of enthusiasts and climbers looking for new narrative interpretations. The social media are also changing attitudes to experiences in the mountains. Instagrammable sites are taken by storm, whereas others disappear from trekking maps and what was once a ‘solitary’ experience becomes something to share with thousands of followers and fans.
