According to Andes mythology the highest peaks are the seat of the Sun god. In July 1976 an expedition of alpinists from Grenoble made an attempt on the west face of Jeupaia. 6634 metres high, in the heart of the Cordillera of Huayhuash. the second highest mountain of Perù. The ardous face is gained metre by metre by the alpinist, but, during the climg they fall ill anf the weather becomes worse. Despite a final assult, the expedition has to give up the climb when they are only a hundred and fifty metres from the summit. The Sun god did not want...
