USHUAÏA NATURE: LES GLACES RACONTENT
France / 1999 / 88'
The glaciers and icecaps of the Poles not only supply most of the world's fresh water reserves, but also regulate the climate by generating the great marine currents. Moreover they conserve encrusted in their depths the story of the earth's atmosphere and climate. Nicolas Hulot and the Ushuaia Nature team went to Greenland, the largest island on earth, to observe all the phases of the ice: from the formation of the giant icebergs, ushed into the ocean by the ice flows, to the huge icecap over three kilometres high which covers most of this island.
