In 1984 an international expedition attempts to climb Annapurna in the Nepalese Himalayan mountain range north-west of Kadmandu. Annapurna (8078 m) was the first 8000 conquered by man, Herzog and Lachenal in 1950. The film describes the difficulties of the climb which cost the lives of two members of the expedition who were victims of an Avalanche.
