LA MONTAGNA AL FEMMINILE
JOCHEN MÜLLER, INGRID RUNGGALDIER
Italy / 2002 / 52'
In the history of alpinism women are virtually ignored, their names unknown, their feats generally unmentioned. Yet women have also contributed to the development of mountaineering. This film is a journey through the history of female alpinism to highlight some of their names and their climbing exploits. What is, and was in the past, the role of women in alpinism and climbing? What makes and made them want to climb mountains? The answers are multiple, individual, linked to different times and ages, and also to the different personalities of the women. The film ranges from the first women who climbed Mont Blanc at the beginning of Alpine tourism, then more difficult mountaineering and the race for grade VI in the thirties. The film also deals with more recent subjects like professionalism in sports climbing, high altitude mountaineering and climbing from a philosophical and psychological point of view.
