Nobuo Honma is a 66-year old saki producer who lives in a small town in Japan’s northernmost island of Hokkaido. Since the death of his wife two years ago, he lives with his youngest son Yusuo. Every day Nobuo goes for a walk in the winter snow to a fish breeding centre. He relieves his loneliness by attentively observing the development of thousands of little fish in the large industrial pools. As the second anniversary of his wife’s death approaches, Nobuo insists on the presence of his elder son Ryoichi, who he has not seen for a long time. Nobuo’s reunion with his two sons opens up unspoken feelings and conflict. All leading toward change and brighter days...
