In 1946, at the end of the Second World War, Sepp Hinter began working as an apprentice for a shoemaker in Monguelfo. At that time the shoemaker used to go from farm to farm with his apprentice to make the shoes for the peasant families. Together they made everyday shoes and Sunday shoes for children and adults, better ones for the farmers and simpler ones for the farm labourers. Besides board and lodging, the farmer also provided the material needed. Payment in those post-war years was often in the form of eggs, or butter, or whatever the farm could afford.
Since then Sepp Hintner has worked for many years as a shoemaker and with his family he runs a shop in the village of Monguelfo. Now he is seventy years old, he has one wish: to turn back the clock and relive once more the emotion of going from one farm to another to "make lovely shoes".
