JUNG STIRBT, WEN DIE GOETTER LIEBEN
Germany / 2002 / 42'
Wolfgang Güllich died on 30 August 1992 after a car accident. He was one of the greatest climbers of all times. He reached a new dimension in sports climbing and was the first to take the idea of free climbing to the Himalayas. Money did not interest him: at the beginning he did not have any at all, then towards the end, he had enough to lead a middleclass life. Through his sponsor he was asked to be Sylvester Stallone’s double in the film "Cliffhanger". Together with his companion Annette he built a house on ground he had bought. Returning from a radio interview he crashed into a guardrail at top speed; he died after a few hours in hospital.
His routes are still climbed today. The last one he opened "Action directe" is still the most difficult climb in Germany and one of the most difficult in the world.
