Andrea Chaves

Andrea's life was characterised by two great loves: Dante and the mountains. A climber of extraordinary talent and a devotee of the supreme poet, he learned the whole of the Divine Comedy by heart, succeeding in making it contemporary and drawing on its underlying themes as a motivation for his solo ascents. Andrea died on 8 September 2017 while tackling the difficult Major route on Mont Blanc, at the age of 21.
