Contemporary Languages: from Reinhold Messner to Luca Barbarossa, from philosophy to bicycles and from the Dolomites to the Himalayas. Eight evenings, with eight events not to be missed.

The evening events at Trento Film Festival have always represented one of the most eagerly awaited elements of the festival. This is because not only do they bring celebrities and well-known faces in the world of climbing and culture to the stage, but above all because they represent an opportunity to reflect on major present-day issues using a contemporary language, mixing images, words, music and all forms of narrative and artistic expression.
The opening evening will see the presence of an old friend of Trento Film Festival, the writer Paolo Cognetti, jury member at the last edition and this year a member of the jury for the ITAS mountain book prize. The performance entitled Le Otto Montagne, to take place at the Teatro Sociale on Friday 26 April at 9 pm, is indeed taken from his bestselling book. The theatrical adaptation by Francesca Sangalli, directed by Marta Maria Marangoni, recounts a story of fathers and sons, abandonment of civilisation and the freedom of life in the wild.
On Saturday 27 April at 9 pm, theatre will give way to music, thanks to the presence of Luca Barbarossa in Trento. At the Sala della Filarmonica he will be the star of the evening Tra musica e parole. In a dialogue with Alberto Faustini, Editor of the newspaper L’Adige, the singer from Rome will recount his relationship with the mountains, a relationship dominated by silence, nature, traditions and childhood memories, and present some of his greatest hits in an acoustic sound performance.
The evening on Sunday 28 April, again at 9 pm, will be dedicated to another field of knowledge and take place once again in the Sala della Filarmonica, supervised by the Fondazione Dolomiti UNESCO (with support from the Fondi Comuni di Confine). The event will focus on the fragility of beauty, with the well-known philosopher Vito Mancuso, interviewed by Fausta Slanzi. For some time, Mancuso has dealt with the subject of beauty and its relationship with good, truth and man.
On Monday 29 April climbing comes back into the limelight, with a fascinating intergenerational dialogue: Alpinismo e oltre, tre generazioni a confronto is an evening exploring different ways of experiencing the mountains, through the stories of the leading players: from climbing, sky running and ski mountaineering to slacklining, freeriding, paragliding, base jumping and mountain biking. The presenters will be the exceptionally talented climber Tamara Lunger and the TV presenter Massimiliano Ossini, with the participation of the Bastard Sons of Dioniso, who will provide a live “soundtrack” for the three generations.
From climbing to exploration and from the mountains to the sea: on Tuesday 30 April the stage of the Auditorium Santa Chiara will be handed over to Hervè Barmasse and Giovanni Soldini, for an evening supervised by Luca Castaldini, journalist with La Gazzetta dello Sport: Amicizia estrema. Montagne e oceani. Diversità e fratellanza. One of the men is an ocean sailor, the other a mountaineer. Two worlds that are so different that… they each have their own words for ropes. And yet their solitary feats, the breath-taking scenery and extreme situations demonstrate that the two great sportsmen and close friends follow a course that has more in common than ever.
Climbing again takes centre stage on Thursday 2 May, once more in the Auditorium Santa Chiara. Indimenticabile Kukuczka is intended as a way of paying homage to the memory of great Polish climber, 30 years after the tragedy on the Lhotse. On 24 October 1989 a snapped rope cost the phenomenal Polish climber his life. He was concluding the ascent of the most difficult wall of one of the eight-thousanders. In less than 9 years he had climbed them all, with daring, force and astonishing resistance. Luca Calvi, Celina Kukuczka and Krzysztof Wielicki will converse with Hervé Barmasse.
The evening featuring Reinhold Messner, “the king of the eight-thousanders” is eagerly awaited: on Friday 3 May the public at the Auditorium Santa Chiara will be able to participate in a memorable evening dedicated to Alexander von Humboldt, father of the ecology movement, on the 250th anniversary of his birth. Quel vulcano di Humboldt. Dalle Alpi al Chimborazo, l’incredibile attualità di uno scienziato-esploratore ingiustamente dimenticato will bring to the stage Ariane Benedikter, Massimo Bernardi, Telmo Pievani, Veronica Lisino, Filippo Thiery and Julio Velasco.
The festival concludes on Sunday 5 May at the Sala della Filarmonica with an event dedicated to adventure on two wheels: La strada del Pamir. In bicicletta sui grandi altipiani dell’Asia Centrale is the story of a journey by the cyclist from Trentino, Alessandro De Bertolini, from Tajikistan to Kyrgyzstan along the Pamir Highway, one of the highest roads in the world, arriving at an altitude of 4,600 m at the Akbaital Pass. In collaboration with Montura Editing and BikeTheHistory, De Bertolini will take the stage along with Roberto Della Maria, Fabrizio Sartori and Enzo Macor.
