In Benin the “water people” who fought against colonisation in the past are now battling with the “water hyacinth”, an invasive and damaging floating plant that reproduces at a dizzying rate, suffocating the lake. Thus realism and imagination come together, as if one could not be understood or tolerated without the other.

Directors

Marina Russo Villani
Italian filmmaker, she graduated in Arts Economics from Bocconi University and pursued studies in Cinema and Screenwriting in France at Sorbonne Nouvelle and Paris Nanterre. She established her production company, Filibusta, in 2023.

Victor Missud
As a filmmaker, he blends documentary, fiction, and genre cinema, and his works have been showcased at various prestigious festivals. In 2024, he joined Le Fresnoy - National Studio of Contemporary Arts.
