Jeremiah Johnson (Robert Redford), tired of his worldly life, retreats to the Rocky Mountains to be a trapper. His new existence sees him starting a family, by adopting an orphan and marrying the daughter of an Indian chief. When other natives kill both out of revenge, he begins his own personal war against the hostile tribe.
