The San Martin, the ship in charge of supplying the Argentine scientific bases at the South Pole, is sailing toward Antarctica. Word arrives from the nearby base that Lieutenant Alvarez, who went out alone on a scientific reconnaissance, is lost: the San Martin is asked to help search for him with the ship's helicopter.
