The work of Vittorio Sella (1859–1943), photographer and mountaineer, is presented in this volume from a previously unexplored perspective, through his working methods and his archive, which is today preserved with philological rigor by  Fondazione Sella. The research conducted by distinguished scholars of photography and mountaineering is accompanied by Sella’s remarkable and partly unpublished photographs of the Alps and other major mountain ranges around the world, as well as images taken in his own home. Contemporary photographs of the archive are by Giulio Favotto. The project is supported by Strategia Fotografia 2024, promoted by the Direzione Generale Creatività Contemporanea of the Ministero della Cultura.
