This film by Samivel shows the world of the Alps as it appeared to the rather naive though enthusiastic imagination of mountaineers and excursionists in 1952. The film is not imaginary though: the camera - through the trained eyes and spirit of the eclectic artist, father of French mountain culture, writer, designer, water-colour painter and poet - picks out the quietest brightest and even unknown corners of the mountains. The discovery - that artistic view of the Alps - increased the number of mountain lovers. The first edition of the Film Festival, grateful and moved, could not but award to "Cimes et merveilles" the first prize, for the feeling as well as for the artistic content of this work which is to be admired even today.
