With the precision required by a scientific analysis, the author has taken up: in Laos the "day of the bonzes", the processing of cotton, the work of elephants, the harvesting and use of opium; in Vietnam, the "unicorn dance"; on the island of Bali, the cremation of a prince, the education of dancers and typical dances; in Japan, the most valid motifs of tradition (the geishas, the ancient samurai ceremonies) and aspects of modernism; in Hong-Kong, canoe racing and nightlife; and in India, the day of two little "untouchables".
