A faithful and meticulous reconstruction of the "first" ascent of the Jungfrau. The film depicts the two phases of the conquest of the first mountain above 4,000 meters in the Swiss Alps. The first part of the film recounts how the two brothers Johans and Geronimo Meyer from Aarau first conquered the superb peak on August 3, 1811. The second part recounts how the hotelier Fritz von Almen, accompanied by five mountain guides, opened a route through the internal arĂȘte of the Jungfrau's west face. This second ascent was completed in September 1885, and it remains one of the most popular routes among mountaineers worldwide.
