It recounts the ascent of Mont Blanc by Austrian mountaineers and filmmakers Kurt Diemberger and Franz Lindner in September 1961. After departing from Val de Vigny, they climbed the Aigu Noire, descended the north ridge, attacked the great Peuterey ridge, and finally reached the summit of Mont Blanc.
It was a significant mountaineering undertaking, lasting five days, and punctuated by climbs, descents, traverses, and various other difficulties that the two friends brilliantly overcame.
Halfway down the Peuterey ridge, they were struck first by fog and then by a blizzard, but the discomfort quickly passed, and the two daring climbers reached their goal.
The final meters were filmed in complete darkness, and the heavy breathing of the exhausted climbers could be heard almost drowning out the musical score from Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.
