After a preamble on the first inhabitants of the Alps, from the Paleozoic era to the Middle Ages, the film recalls the first steps of exploratory mountaineering, the birth of the Italian Alpine Club (CAI), and its work to provide the Alps with the necessary mountain huts. It then commemorates the figure of the mountaineer and explorer Piero Ghiglione, who left a legacy for the construction of a hut on Mont Blanc. Finally, it describes the efforts made to install the new refuge at Col du Trident (3,690 m), the 481st CAI refuge, serving as an advanced base for challenging climbs on the Brenva face.
