In April 1977 a Russian scientific expedition carried out a number of studies and underwater surveys under the Artic ice floes. The reasearch work was coordinated by the 23 North Pole Station which arranged the descent of the divers into the deep. During the immersions, that lasted a thousand hours altogether, studies were made on the drift of the ice pack, on the fauna and the composition of the ice as well as a series of studies provided for by underwater glaceology.
