This is a film about volcanology and focuses on the research carried out on volcanoes in the Kamchatka area. The purpose of this research is to prevent catastofic eruptions but also the film shows scientific investigations on submarine volcanoes. The documentary makes use of scientific material from the Volcanological Institute of the Far East of the Academy of Science in the Soviet Union.
