Until a few years ago, peasants or farm-labourers who did not own their own fields in the valley, had to look for forage for their goats up in the mountains. They cut the grass in the strips of land among the precipices, then dried it and carried it down to the valley with considerable fatigue. This work - which is called "Wildheuen" or haymaking on the slopes - is nowadays restricted to few areas and the alpine territory has suffered as a result. Alpine haymaking takes place in august and can still be seen above Lake Brinz.
