In the early thirties the north wall of Grandes Jorasses was still one of the biggest unsolved problems in the Alps. Many attempts, some tragic, were made until in 1934 four roped parties attempted to conquer it at the same time. Because of the weather conditions, three of the four parties - the French one with Charlet and Robert Gréloz, the Italian one with Chabod and Gervasulti and the Austrian one - soon gave up and only the German party with Rudy Peters and Haringer continued, but they failed to conquer it and Haringer lost his life. Peters conquered Grandes Jorasses in 1935, but the film shows the events of the drammatic attempt in 1934.
