THis is Tasio's story, a man who was born in a hamlet at the foot of the hills of Urbasa. At 14 he becomes a coalmaker. He meets Paulina, the girl who would become the woman of his life. Soon, Elisa is born. From that moment onwards, Tasio not only carries on being a coalmaker but he is also forced to become a poacher. Paulina is seriously ill. This is perhaps one of the hardest moments in Tasio's life. Everyone tries to convince him that he must get a steady job, as does his daughter who will soon marry and go far away. But Tasio refuses. His strange and deep sense of freedom prevails above everything else.
