Apart from an adequate physical preparation, one should also know that the weather is extremely changeable and that, for example, the snow coverage varies according to the slope of of the ground and its exposure to the sun and that avalanches may easily occure under certain circumstances. In recent years the 4th Alpine Army Corps has been an avalanche information service called Meteomont which utilizes and processes the data on the atmosphere and snow collected in a hundred and fifty meteorological snow stations.
