We are in 1881, when Grepon was an unconquerable peak dominating the Chamonix valley. A tweed suit, wollen socks and a felt hat represented british elegance at that time. Dressed more or less in this way, with hobnail boots, an alpenstock and canvas ropes, Alfred Mummery and his guides, made a historic climb. To relive this enterprise Chris Bonington chose the same equipment to attack the mountain in the way Mummery intended: "loyally".
