The glaciers are extremly valuable espacially in regulating the water, in their influence on the local micro-climate and for their economic importance in the production of electricity. In the last 150 years, and especially in recent decades, the glaciers have been withdrawing due to the increasing warmth of earth's atmosphere. Two things threaten the galciers: the global situation of our planet and direct human acivity. The Trentino Glaciological Committee was set up in 1990 to study the glaciers and find a way to protect them. The committee is composed of alpinists and voluntary researches of the Tridentine Alpinist Society, who have carried out a detailed investigation on the current state of the glaciers in Trentino, over 100, here called Vedrette.
