An ancient custom of pre-Christian origin, the "tratomarzo" is a New year's Eve festivity, linking the reawakening of nature to erotic manifestations among men, often enacted with heavy and desecrating irony, represented by allusions to pairing off. In Trentino the "tratomarzo" has been repeatedly prohibited by the ecclesiastical authorities, but today some young people try to recover the tradition.
