The mountains and valleys around the river Li in southern China are among the most beautiful in the woorld. Tourists from all over the world invade Guilin every year in the season when the cinnamon trees blossom, a day's journey by boat and bus to see this unforgettable scene. There is no contact with the people, the programme does not include the small villages and lively markets, but perhaps it is better so because mass tourism has already endangered Guilin. The film is about the life of the Su family in Long Shi, four generations of pesants and fishermen under one roof who coltivate rice and continue to fish with cormorants as long as the river is not polluted. Long Shi is a little paradise for the western visitors, where the work is hard but the people are happy and have faith in the future.
