The Dead Sea, on the border of Israel and Jordan, is fed by the Jordan river and isan observation centre for scientists. It is a salt lake situated about 400 metres below sea level and it has an exceptionaconcentration of mineral salts. Diving intothe water requires special protection of the mucous membranes against the excessive salinity. The geologic, geographic, climatologic and medicinal features of the lake are analysed in the film which also underlines its industrial exploitation of potassium.
