The documentary is the seventh of the CAI/Quilici series dedicated to the Italian side of the Alps. The troupe reached the spot at one of the most critical times for the great mountain chain whose glaciers, in the grip of a heat-wave, showed signe of grat suffering. An extremely difficult situation, with negative effects also on mountaineering activities, caused by the instability of the walls, ad ledges and ridges. In this scene the helicopter, expertly piloted by a filmmaker and alpinist, was used as the long arm of the cameraman who was able to capture images and evidence of unusul beauty on the withdrawal of the glacies, illustrated by the glaciologist Claudio Smiraglia, President of the CAI scientific commission. The sweeping panoramas, the famous peaks, the refuges and the bivouacs perched in incredible positions, the most exciting stage of the Mezzalama Trophy lashed by the wind and snow, and the images culled from the CAI Film Library, represent the highlights of this film.
