In a book published in 1973, the journalist Aldo Gorfer and the photographer Flavio Faganello recorded the life of the mountain farmers in the South Tyrol. “The Heirs of Solitude” soon became a cult book, an important and precious record of life in the remote and isolated farmsteads of Val Martello, Val d’ Ultimo and Val d’ Ahornach.
The construction of the long-awaited roads has not solved the problems of solitude, nor the difficulty of solitude, nor the difficulty of finding a wife prepared to live above 1,800 metres in isolated farmsteads. The film portrays Faganello’s and Gorfer’s point if view in an attempt to capture the feelings of the past and document what has remained and what has changed.
