Anique from of empirical science took palce two years ago at the famous Ice Hotel in Jukkasjärvi, Laponia, the Northernmost paret of Sweden. Theculmination of the experiment was the first concert in Europe performed with classical instruments - all made of ice. The orchestra consisted of two celli, a base, flutes and percussion. Most of the instruments were sculpted from “snice” - a mixture of snow and ice. The concert played by professional musicians was a mixture of classical works and two new pieces written exclusively for the ice orchestra and singers. It wasn’ t just an unusual musical happening - it also turned into a desperate fight against the caprices of winter weather: the whole orchestra almost melted: the whole orchestra almost melted away on the premiere...
