Makalu is the fifth highest mountain in the world and is situated 18 km South-East of Everest in Nepal. It is a pyramid-like rocky and icy mountain and its name comes from the mispronunciation of the Sanskrit term Mahakala (the personification of death or rebirth or God of time). The mountain summit is of dark rock and it is Mahakala’s reign, whom, for the Tibetan Buddhist represents the protecting power of all the Buddhas. Angelo Giovanetti and Renzo Benedetti reached the peak without oxygen-aid in Spring 2006 and the film lets us share their adventure.
