This film tells the incredible story of a hunter who discovered the mummified body of a forty-year-old man in one of the most remote part of the country. The detailed notes in the diary of the dead man revealed that he had committed suicide by starving himself the previous summer. The man’s true identity has never been discovered. Adapted from the novel Miira ni narumade by Shimada Masahiko, which itself is based on a true story, the film is a manifesto for the preservation of life, a concept that was openly challenged by the protagonist’s own radical rejection of it.
