Fontoy, in the French region of Lorraine. Of the hundreds of iron mines that fuelled the engine of the European company for almost a century, nothing remains today except the rusty skeletons of enormous structures in the process of being dismantled. Symbols of a production system capable of attracting immense numbers of workers from all over Europe, thanks to the mirage of a better life. The inhabitants of Trentino also abandoned their towns in mass to reach these places, preparing for social climbing that only led to one place: the mine.
