One morning in winter, De Seta lands on the island of Vulcano in the first light of dawn with his video camera. On the banks there are just a few houses and the fishermen’s boats set off as usual. The shepherds and their flocks make their way up the slopes of the volcano while the women collect wood. Everyone stares up at the crater from which the lava is flowing. The thunder of the volcano fills the silence and smoke rises into the sky. When a bolt of lightning crosses the sky, everyone tries to get home before the storm and the volcano are unleashed.
