The Everest Base Camp, situated at an altitude of 5,300 metres, is set up each year and dismantled after two months. It is calculated that it can accommodate around a thousand people, including guides, cooks, government officials and various guests. Daily life in this micro community appears almost surreal in comparison to the immensity of the surrounding environment and its sacred nature, and this violent contrast gives rise to numerous questions about the paradoxes generated by these forms of extreme tourism.
