The Aymara community, to which the elderly herder Matilde belongs, has long lived in the highlands along what are now the borders of Chile, Bolivia, Peru, and Argentina. After the Spanish evangelization campaigns, a second wave of conversions has reached this community in the last few decades. Now the Aymara believe in Heaven rather than Earth. According to their adopted belief, Earth is Satan’s domain. The once revered natural world is now regarded as a threatening place dominated by the devil.

An artist and filmmaker from Chile, her work is informed by and in dialogue with anthropology, delving mostly around ecology and religion. She is interested in the limits of rational thought, the fantasy of objectivity, fiction and ecology as a system of interconnected entities subject to influence each other. In 2020 she finishes a MA in Visual Anthropology in the UK.
