Two villages, Mantet in the Pyrenees and Mariaud in the Alps, are practically cut off from the world due to the lack of roads. An ethnographic parody, disorienting and ironic.

Moullet’s second short film explores two villages practically cut off from the world due to the lack of roads, Mantet in the Pyrenees and Mariaud in the Alps. An ethnographic parody, Terres noires is an initial brilliant demonstration of the disorienting and ironic style that was to become so typical of his films. The discrepancy between the narrator’s tone and the humility of the images powerfully underlines the condition of these rural areas, so cynically abandoned.
