SCI A PASSO RIDOTTO makes use of decades of private film footage dedicated to skiing, to show it is not merely a sport, but also a cultural and social phenomenon linked to the mountains, evolving from an elite pursuit into an experience for the masses. Against the backdrop of Alpine and Apennine landscapes, winter holidays and Olympic competitions, these home movies chronicle the evolution of skiing during the 20th century. The mountain landscape changes, but not the love for a sport that is synonymous with freedom, above all.
The selection is inspired by “Montagne,” a series published on Memoryscapes, an online platform dedicated to rediscovering Italy’s private heritage on small-format film, conceived by the Fondazione Home Movies – Archivio Nazionale del Film di Famiglia.
