Recovering from an accident, researcher Leo, who has just translated the Tibetan text ‘The Life of Milarepa,’ tells his injured professor the story of this extraordinary Tibetan mystic who abandoned the path of black magic to attain Buddhist nirvana, also through the struggles of mountaineering. Based on an idea by Elsa Morante and filmed in the tablelands of Abruzzo.

Liliana Cavani (Carpi, 1933), a director and a screenwriter, is one of the most original voices in Italian cinema. She made her debut with documentaries for Rai before turning her attention to fiction films. Her films include THE CANNIBALS (1969), THE NIGHT PORTER (1974), THE SKIN (1981), and RIPLEY'S GAME (2002).
