ULJU, THE FIRST LIGHT TO REACH KOREA
Existence finds its meaning through expression. Art breathes new life into existence in its most creative expressions. Within these works, the familiar is seen from a fresh perspective, inviting empathy and evoking deep inspiration. These photographs reinterpret the essence of Ulju, revealing its distinctive beauty. Ulju-gun is a region rich in historical and cultural heritage, as well as in the natural beauty of mountains, seas, and rivers. Notably, the Ulsan Ulju Mountain Film Festival, which shares a connection with the Trento Film Festival, was inspired by the Yeongnam Alps. This stunning mountain range features nine peaks over 1,000 meters and earned its name for its magnificent scenery, reminiscent of the European Alps. The grandeur of the Yeongnam Alps is also captured within this exhibition. Ulju is also home to Ganjeolgot Cape, the first place to see the sunrise in South Korea, and the Petroglyphs along the Bangucheon Stream, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Furthermore, Ulju preserves the traditional Korean culture of Onggi (pottery). The selection of South Korea as the Guest of Honor for the 74th Trento Film Festival is deeply meaningful. The occasion is further distinguished as Ulju, home to the Ulsan Ulju Mountain Film Festival, introduces itself to the people of Trento and the global film and mountain community through these photographs. This showcase offers an opportunity to appreciate the distinctive beauty of Ulju and Korea through images of nature, history, and daily life.
