Nestled amid the giant trees that cover the mountainside, deep in the ever-changing wilderness, is a tiny hermitage—the home of Akeji and Asako. The renowned Japanese painter spends his days walking the forest paths, painting and meditating while his wife collects plants and makes pigments. They live a life of ritual and routine, ebbing and flowing with the seasons until they seem to become one with the land that surrounds them. The harmony starts to crack when Asako is hospitalized—but the elderly couple has always been aware of man’s insignificance before nature. Packed with stunning cinematography, this sensitive, thought-provoking film opens a window unto a new state of consciousness.
