SCENES OF EVERYDAY LIFE. GIACOMO FRANCESCO CIPPER, “THE GERMAN” (1664 – 1736)

The exhibition, curated by Maria Silvia Proni and Denis Ton, intends to draw the attention of scholars and the public to one of the most important masters of “genre painting”, active in the period straddling the 17th and 18th centuries: Giacomo Francesco Cipper (1664-1736), known as the German. Cipper was an extremely prolific artist, turning his attention to a wide variety of subjects linked to genre painting and representation of everyday life: market scenes, brawls between vagrants, music lessons, still lifes, peasants and travelling traders, and sometimes beggars. The exhibition includes masterpieces from many prestigious museums, such as the Prado in Madrid, the Royal Palace in Caserta, the Tosio Martinengo art gallery and the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Orleans.
