After THE VELVET QUEEN, Vincent Munier takes us to the heart of the forests of the Vosges. It is here that he learned everything from his father, Michel — a naturalist who spent his life patiently observing wildlife in the woods. Now, it is time for them to pass on this knowledge to Simon, Vincent’s son. Three perspectives, three generations, one shared fascination with the wild. Together, we discover deer, rare birds, foxes, and lynx… and at times, the flutter of wings belonging to a legendary creature: the capercaillie.

We have declared war on nature, but we will lose the battle. Nonetheless, this film gives us hope and shows us that it is not too late to reconnect with what truly matters. Seen through the eyes of three generations, challenging a society that has made speed and performance its cardinal virtues, Le Chant des Forêts invites us to rediscover patience, slowness and silence, and to cultivate the transmission of knowledge with poetry, wisdom and sensitivity. Vincent Munier teaches us to open our eyes, but above all, our ears. He invites us to marvel at the simple things before and below us. There is no need to go to the other side of the world: it is enough to enter the first forest within reach and listen to its song. All of us can do this, thus putting an end to the war and making peace both with nature and ourselves.

A sensory journey made up of vivid sounds and sublime images. Through the bond between father, son and grandson, it tells the story of the forest that lives on in the heart of Europe. Moving beyond anthropocentrism, a message of hope emerges: everything is connected, and the wild endures despite the loss of biodiversity, offering beauty worth fighting for. A powerful poetic warning about impermanence: “We are merely passing through.”
