Of New Guinea-the second largest island on Earth, extending more than two and a half times the size of Italy, grazed by the Equator, traversed by mountain ranges rising up to 3,000 meters-is, here, explored the northeastern part, formerly subject to the German Empire and, after World War I, administered by the Australian Federation.
The cultural documentary, produced by Eugen Schuhmacher during six months in the country, alternates aspects of the flora and fauna ( in particular, of the 45 species of birds of paradise), with aspects of the family, religious and economic life of the Papuans, most of whom live, even today, with the rituals, beliefs and expedients of the Neolithic age.
