Expedition of six young amateur cavers, searching for Quaternary fossils in a cave in the Italian pre-Alps. They film stalagmites that grow an inch every thousand years, and animal fossils from the earliest ages, from squirrels to bison to cave bears. It is of the latter animal species that some bones are found: a jawbone, vertebrae. Eventually it will be possible to reconstruct the skeleton of the "cave bear" that lived from one million to twenty thousand years ago.
