Generations of artists have created the wonders of Kathmandu and the two thousand temples scattered throughout its valley, which offer visitors an architectural vision of its unmistakable lineage. A throng of anonymous, hardworking people live and produce in the country, at a pace that rivals Western civilizations. Agriculture, herding, and craftsmanship, expressed in sometimes archaic forms, are the most widespread forms of activity. The film, however, goes beyond simply recording traditional activities, but is attentive to the slow and tenacious evolution underway in Nepal. In this regard, not least, are the political and social conflicts inherent in a state with diverse ethnic groups on the same territory, and with two giants with distinct social structures: India and China.
