English novelist Samuel Butler emigrated to New Zealand in 1860, aboard the ship Roman Emperor. In that period the european colonizers neglected wide mountainous areas in the hinterlands, in order to breeding sheeps. Like a true pioneer, Samuel Butler for the first time explored New Zealand mountains. This film, describing the ascension to the highest peak of the island, is inspired by the written thoughts and sensations that Samuel Butler wrote after his exciting experience as an alpinist.
